Architectural Intern (Houston)

MARKET SEGMENT: Various

OVERVIEW: This is an entry-level or 0-3 years experienced individual who prepares routine sketches, preliminary working drawings and construction documents for projects under the direction of intermediate or senior-level staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Works closely with senior and intermediate-level staff.
• Assists with preparing design and construction documents.
• Visits sites under direct supervision and assists with the documentation of findings.
• Researches materials and assemblies for incorporation into design and construction drawings.
• Develops architectural design concepts in collaboration with project team.
• Prepares graphic material for presentations or design documents.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Professional degree in architecture (B. Arch or M. Arch) from an accredited university.
• 0-3 years experience.
• Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, Photoshop, SketchUp preferred.

Project Manager (Fort Worth)

MARKET SEGMENT: Commercial

OVERVIEW: The Project Manager will help lead projects through our commercial studio. The role will handle project management and the production of large-scale office and mixed-use developments. This individual is expected to coordinate complex project teams and execute the design vision for the project, while exhibiting excellent communication skills and the leadership ability to represent the firm and their team to the client. The position will have a wealth of opportunity in the firm and demands an individual with entrepreneurial spirit. They will work directly with the executive leadership of the firm in these project types and are expected to have significant experience in commercial projects that include high-rise office, multifamily and hospitality. This position is for someone looking for a position with an innovative firm where they can play a key role in its success.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Identifies objectives and formulates options; conceptualizes the total project and establishes key work priorities for the development of design, scheduling and budgeting.
• Coordinates design efforts during all phases of a commercial and mixed-use development project(s) in excess of $25 million
• Coordinates and communicates regularly with managers, consultants and team members regarding project status; ensures work meets clients’ requirements, is timely and completed within budget.
• Manages project team in preparing design and construction documents.
• May participate in marketing efforts, including presentations.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Professional degree in architecture (B. Arch or M. Arch) from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 10 years experience as a project manager.
• Registered architect in Texas.
• LEED® Accreditation preferred.
• Excellent verbal and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
• Knowledge of building codes.
• Must work well in a collaborative environment and be able to respond to design needs from multiple owners and executive firm leadership.

Architectural Intern (Fort Worth)

MARKET SEGMENT: Various

OVERVIEW: This is an entry or intern-level design or production staff member, typically with 0-3 years experience who prepares routine sketches, preliminary working drawings and construction documents for projects under the direction of intermediate or senior-level staff.

• Creates BIM models and AutoCad drawings.
• Integrates information from consultants and suppliers into models and drawings.
• Visits sites under direct supervision and assists with the documentation of findings.
• Writes or prepares graphic materials for presentations or documents.
• Develops architectural design concepts in collaboration with team.

Specifications Writer (Fort Worth or Houston)

JOB FUNCTION: Interprets architectural and engineering plans, and prepares project manuals for renovation and new construction projects in various markets.

OVERVIEW: VLK Architects is looking for a talented, professional individual in either the Fort Worth or Houston area to serve as a Specifications Writer. The ideal candidate should be a good communicator, needing to coordinate with architects, designers, directors/principals and consultants (the entire project team) in the development of project manuals. The successful candidate will work closely with, and be assigned projects by, the Director of Specifications.

RESPONSIBILTIES:
•Interprets architectural and engineering plans to prepare project manuals.
•Conducts quality reviews of construction drawings while researching and preparing specifications.
•Aware of the products on the market, including the continually changing manufacturers to help maintain in-office Masters.
•Assists in maintaining and developing the firm library for use of the specifications writer, designers and architects.
•Prepares project manuals including general conditions and has a clear, fundamental understanding of the legalities involved in each of the AIA Contract Documents.
•Has a clear understanding of the different project delivery methods (e.g. CSP, Construction Management, Design-Build) and how they affect the contractual requirements within the project manual.
•Prepares progress and proposal/bid set printings, assuring that documents are ready for printing, sealing, signing and distribution.
•Works with both our Fort Worth and Houston offices to prepare specifications that are unique to each.

REQUIREMENTS:
•A minimum of three years architectural specifications writing experience.
•Architectural degree preferred.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•Proficiency in Microsoft Word required.
•Knowledge of LEED®, CHPS, building code and energy code required.
•Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit desired.

Marketing Coordinator (Fort Worth and Houston)

OVERVIEW: VLK seeks an energetic, motivated, self-starter with 5+ years experience in business development and marketing (AEC industry preferred). The most highly-qualified candidates will have a large, established network of both business and client contacts in educational and commercial markets. The Marketing Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Marketing and Firm Principals.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
*Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
*5+ years professional experience in marketing/business development. (A/E/C Industry preferred)
*Excellent interpersonal, organizational and editing skills.
*Motivated self-starter with exceptional oral and written communication skills.
*Ability to work independently under tight deadlines with careful attention to detail.
*Willingness to maintain high standards for all work products as well as preserve the integrity and reputation of VLK in business duties and the community.
*Excellent command of MS Office Suite, Adobe InDesign and Cosential. Digital imaging and graphics software experience a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
*Work with Principals and the Director of Marketing in the establishment of specific short, near and long-term activities, tracking, monitoring and assessment of business development activities.
*Interact with Principals and the Director of Marketing to identify specific "selling opportunities" and "maintenance marketing" strategies.
*Support business development staff by providing school district data, market trends, forecasts and account analyses.
*Work with staff to prepare and develop standard and complex proposals, presentation materials and other marketing efforts as required.
*Ensure schedules are met and the various aspects of proposals, presentations and other marketing materials are accurate and delivered in a timely manner.
*Ensure all proposal materials effectively communicate the strategic vision identified for a given pursuit.
*Implement marketing and advertising campaigns by assembling and analyzing real estate forecasts, school district demographic forecasts, school district administration movement, school board movement, etc.; preparing marketing and advertising strategies, plans, and objectives; planning and organizing promotional presentations; and updating calendars.
*Research competitive services by identifying and evaluating service characteristics, market share, costs and advertising; maintain research databases.
*Track marketing and advertising costs by analyzing and entering expense and new business data.
*Prepare marketing reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing new client hits, RFQ hits and interview hits.
*Keep promotional materials ready by coordinating requirements with graphics department; inventory of stock; placing orders; and verifying receipt.
*Review/edit promotional material narrative for content clarity, compliance and key messages.
*Work with graphic design staff to plan and produce materials.
