Design Architect (Houston Office)
OVERVIEW:
For nearly 30 years, VLK Architects has been a leader in designing innovative educational spaces. VLK is looking for a Design Architect to join our Houston office. The ideal candidate for this position will be well-versed in all phases of design of K-12 schools, with an emphasis on the design of high schools. This position will require creativity and strong organizational skills to find innovative solutions that exceed client expectations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Coordinates design efforts during all phases of a project including bond planning, master planning, programming, schematic design, design development, construction documents, specifications and construction administration
• Develops presentation strategies
• Communicates design ideas through hand sketching, 3D computer renderings and verbal presentation skills
• Coordinates with consultants, contractors, fabricators, specification writers, and design team members
• Must work well in a collaborative environment and be able to respond to design needs from multiple project architects, directors and firm principals
• Serves in a mentoring role for junior designers
• Participates in interview presentations, trade show conventions, and general marketing efforts
• Ability to manage the design process of several concurrent projects
REQUIREMENTS:

OVERVIEW:

The ideal candidate for this position would have 5 + years experience, would lead multi-person teams with primary responsibility for programming, scheduling, consultant & client coordination and technical systems development in the preparation of design, design development, construction documents and specifications. Experience with managing BIM (Revit) implementation is required.

Business Assistant (Fort Worth Office)
OVERVIEW:
VLK Architects, Inc. is seeking a Business Assistant with a strong background in accounts payable and accounts receivable. This position will be required to perform a variety of other administrative and related duties. Applicant must possess strong organizational and critical thinking skills, be highly dependable and have the ability to communicate with a range of partners, principals, and employees among multiple offices. Excellent listening skills and the ability to ask relevant questions in order to gather, document, and communicate detailed information with clients and staff. Experience in architectural or engineering professional services preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Accounts Payable
o Verifies accuracy and ensures timely payments of vendor invoices
o Maintains accurate records
o Research and resolves any discrepancies
o Obtains proper approval for payables per approval procedures
• Accounts Receivable
o Prepare, verify, and process invoices according to contracts
o Process customer payments
o Investigate and resolve customer queries
• Prepares contracts for clients and consultants with accuracy
• Assists Business Manager and performs other essential duties as required
REQUIREMENTS:
• A minimum of 2-4 years experience in bookkeeping
• Strong general accounting practices and procedure
• Advanced skills in Excel
• Strong knowledge of QuickBooks
• Experience with Ajera helpful
